Horror Café Bateren

Horror Café Bateren

Hello, everyone.

This is Ghana from Hiroshima University.

Last weekend I went to a horror café in Saijo called Bateren (伴天連) with other HSAA members, Soth and Sally

This place is located near Higashihiroshima station, and can be accessed from Saijo station by taking a bus to Takehara station.

After getting off at a bus stop called ゴルフ場下, we just have to walk for around 20 minutes along the path heading to Higashihiroshima Observatory.

Make sure to check for an open parking lot with "ばてれん" sign on the entrance, and we already arrive at the place.

The café was opened in 1960s.

Some years ago, the café was closed for 4 years after its previous owner passed away.

But then, his son (the current owner) decided to reopen the place again in 2015.

The horror café is totally creepy, but in a good way for me.

It is decorated with skulls (from humans to cow), scary mannequins, masks, decorations, and charms made from animal parts.

It's always dark inside the café even though it's bright outside to ensure every costumer feel the experience of having a meal in a haunted house-like place.

To make the atmosphere even scarier, the owner plays scary background music to accompany us eating pancakes or sandwiches at a reasonable price of 500-600¥.

The owner also loves to pull pranks on us to make our visit even more...thrilling.

So, if you guys have an interest in horror movies or scary things, please make sure to visit this café soon.
