Hiroshima Tips : (HALAL FOOD)

Hi everyone, I'm Hanan Zehry, HSAA member from Egypt.

Today I will give notes about important issue for Muslim Travelers in Japan.

Q What does halal mean?

Halal is the Arabic word for “lawful” or “permitted”. It is a broad term covering what is allowed in Islamic, but is often used in conjunction with food.

The slaughter of a halal animal guidelines:

• Allah (God's) name must be pronounced during slaughter.

• The instrument must be very sharp. The animal must be slit at the throat.

• The animal must be hung upside down and allowed to bleed dry.

• The animal must have been fed a natural diet that did not contain animal by-products.

Muslims are not allowed to.

• Alcohol

• Pig meat

• Meat of an animal that has died of natural causes.

Not just meats

Some also avoid cakes, biscuits, ice-cream and packaged foods that contain animal based products that comes from pigs.

Bangladeshi, Egyptian, Indian, Indonesian, Iranian, Malaysian, Moroccan, Pakistani and Turkish restaurants may also have halal food options.
